Officials say a gunman accused of killing seven people in France was planning to kill another soldier “imminently,” which led to the pre-dawn raid on a Toulouse apartment and an ongoing standoff between the suspect and police Wednesday.
The tense standoff has passed the 16-hour mark, and a police spokesperson says if the man does not surrender soon, police are ready to storm the building.
Officials said Wednesday the gunman is believed to be behind the deaths of three paratroopers and a shooting at a Jewish school that killed three children and a rabbi. They also said the suspect claims links to al Qaeda.
