In the lead-up to the invasion of Iraq, the Bush neocons insisted Saddam Hussein was working with and sheltering al-Qaeda.

In December of 2001, then vice president Dick Cheney said Saddam Hussein had trained al-Qaeda on the use of chemical and biological weapons. Cheney said there was a connection between Mohammed Atta, supposedly the 9/11 lead hijacker, and Iraq. The Bush neocons, led by Cheney and then Sec. Def. Rumsfeld, “stovepiped” misleading and fabricated information about an al-Qaeda link to Iraq to the New York Times and the corporate media.
Despite the fact the supposed link was discredited, Cheney reasserted it in 2007. It was disputed by the CIA and the 9/11 commission.
The imagined terror link became part of the narrative used to justify the invasion of Iraq that ultimately killed over a million people.
The Obama administration is following in the footsteps of the Bush administration. On Thursday, Obama’s Treasury Department accused Iran of entering into a “secret deal” with al-Qaeda.
David S. Cohen said Iran entered a “secret deal with al-Qaida allowing it to funnel funds and operatives through its territory.” Like Cheney, Rumsfeld, and the neocons, Cohen did not provide any evidence to back up his claim.

“This network serves as the core pipeline through which al-Qaeda moves money, facilitators and operatives from across the Middle East to South Asia,” the Treasury said. The Iranian government, it insisted, supports Ezedin Abdel Aziz Khalil and an offshoot of al-Qaeda and funnels money to top al-Qaeda honchos in Pakistan.
Like the claim that Saddam Hussein supported al-Qaeda, the claim Iran backs the terror group named after a database is war propaganda. It ignores the fact Iran has arrested, detained, and deported numerous members of al-Qaeda.
Iranian president, Mohammed Khatami, said in 2003 that al-Qaeda hates his country as much as it hates the United States. “Whenever we find al-Qaeda members, we arrest them and the group has as much hatred and enmity to Iran as it does to the US,” he said.
In 2008, Osama’s deputy, al-Zawahiri, said it would be in the best interest of the Mujaheddin if Iran was destroyed in a war between it and the United States. In December of 2007, the Egyptian accused Iran of stabbing al-Qaeda in the back.
In June, The Race for Iran blog posted an excellent article highlighting corporate media propaganda claiming Iran sheltered and supported Saif al-Adel, who was said to be in the running to either lead or become deputy leader of al-Qaeda. The blog documents Iran’s effort to repatriate a large number of al-Qaeda members.
Iran even offered to turn over detained al-Qaeda members – including Saif al-Adel – to the United States in return for members of mojahedin-e khalq (MEK), an Iraqi-based Iranian opposition group that has killed Iranians since the 1970s. It has also killed U.S. citizens and military personnel.
MEK was designated as a terrorist group by the United States, but afforded protected status after the invasion of Iraq. The U.S. rebuffed the deal with the Iranians because MEK was an important asset in the covert neocon war against Iran.
In fact, Dick Cheney and his coterie of neocons felt compelled to slap Iran in the face. In December of 2001, at a meeting of deputy cabinet officials, it was decided that the U.S. would accept tactical information about terrorists from Iran but offer nothing in return.
Iran went so far as to transfer two al-Qaeda suspects to Afghanistan in 2002 in return for information on four suspects held at Guantanamo accused in the 1998 killing of nine Iranian diplomats in Kabul. The Iranain request was denied.
The Treasury claim that al-Qaeda and Iran have teamed up is a continuation of the propaganda invented by the Bush regime neocons. It reveals that nothing has changed since Bush left the Oval Office and the Obama administration is following the same script.
An attack against Iran is in the interest of the globalists. The elite made their intention known during the 2010 Bilderberg meeting. Order of war, murder and chaos is the plan. The propaganda effort to demonize Iran by hooking it up with al-Qaeda is the latest effort to set the stage for an attack.
