An email received by Infowars.com documents an “aggressive” effort by the Texas Department of Safety to recruit former members of the military.

The email consists of an internal memo sent to DPS employees. The information was not intended to be released to the citizens of Texas.

The DPS is responsible for statewide law enforcement and vehicle regulation. In addition to the Texas Highway Patrol and Emergency Management, the DPS is responsible for combating terrorism and organized crime, according to its website.

The memo is further evidence that Texas is actively militarizing its law enforcement. Other states are also “aggressively” militarizing law enforcement.

The federal government has actively militarized law enforcement since the 1990s.

· At yesterday’s Public Safety Commission meeting, the Commission discussed recruiting efforts, as well as the introduction of the 9-hour workday for commissioned officers. Director Steven C. McCraw outlined an aggressive recruiting strategy that includes focused recruitment of former U.S. Military personnel and the creation of Regional Recruit Prep Schools that will provide an orientation to prospective recruits and their family members regarding what to expect as a DPS Trooper.

Chairman Allan Polunsky said, “During a time period where resources are sparse, some law enforcement agencies were not as fortunate as DPS. State and local law enforcement agencies are suffering from layoffs of commissioned officers. The Legislature’s willingness to fund DPS for a 9-hour workday, rather than responding to budget cuts with layoffs, furloughs and reductions in pay for our employees, truly highlights the amazing work that the men and women of DPS do for the State of Texas.”

The Commission also announced several personnel changes. Mike Simpson, Assistant Director/Chief of Law Enforcement Support Division will become Chief of Radio Interoperability Infrastructure for the State of Texas. Skylor Hearn, currently Regional Commander of Region 4 in El Paso will become the Assistant Director/Chief of the Law Enforcement Support Division. Amanda Arriaga of the Government Relations Division was named Chief of the newly created Public Affairs and Policy Division.

· Wilson E. Speir Scholarship applications will be accepted through August 5 th . Students must be classified as full-time criminal justice majors and enrolled in Texas universities. Two scholarships will be awarded for $500 per semester for up to two semesters. Applicants should submit resumes and transcripts of completed college work to: DPS, Director’s Office, P.O. · If you’re a Certified Public Accountant, DPS has been approved as a CPE sponsor for CPAs. Many of the courses taught through the Employee Development Unit, as well as the Interest Based Management course, can be reported as CPA continuing education hours. I would like to compliment the staff of the Georgetown, Texas office. I renewed my license this morning, they were efficient, quick and very nice. My only complaint is the size of the facility. It was a very pleasant experience. Kudos to the staff!

Customer service seems to be a lost art. The last place I expected to find it was at the DMV. Boy, was I wrong. I arrived at the Ft Worth DMV at about 8:45 AM yesterday (Friday 6/24) to a packed room. My goal was to assist my daughter with her application for a Driver’s Learner Permit. There was a line to sign-in / get a number, but the line moved quickly and the lady at the desk was helpful and informative (courteous too). The waiting room was a bit Spartan, but acceptably comfortable, even for the size of the crowd. I was surprised at how quickly patrons were processed and my number was called well before I had anticipated. The gentleman who helped us was very pleasant and efficient. He processed the paperwork and offered enough conversation to help my daughter feel comfortable and relaxed (she was a little stressed about the test she was required to take). While waiting, I noticed that all of the employees interacting with customers were pleasant – even if the customer wasn’t. The interaction between employees seemed both efficient and fun – there was some light joking and conversation – nothing even approaching inappropriate. I was thoroughly impressed with the experience and would like to thank, not only the office employees who made out visit pleasant, but also the managers who’ve fostered this environment.

I am not submitting a question, rather a thank you to Livingston DPS. I was there to renew my license and my son to take his driving test. The customer service was outstanding! Seems like nowadays people don’t believe in courtesy. I think that the Livingston office should be the model that all the other offices are run like. They are ultra efficient and kind on top of that. So…THANK YOU!!!

I just wanted to let you know about the great service I received today when changing my name on my driver license. Estella Andrada met me at the door and explained the information I needed to complete on the application form. Chantal (I apologize, but I missed her last name) then took me to Rhonda Fowler to process my change. Rhonda was highly professional and friendly, and was patient with me when she had to reprint the temporary license because I signed it using my previous name. Your folks are doing great work and you deserve to be proud of them!
