TAPPAN – A Rockland County man is charged with planning an Election Day suicide bombing in Washington, D.C.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York, Paul Rosenfeld concocted a plan to draw attention to his political beliefs by killing himself on the National Mall in Washington.

Investigators say Rosenfeld, 56, lives on Slocum Avenue in Tappan. The quiet, dead-end street was blocked off by police as federal authorities collected bags of evidence Wednesday afternoon.

The FBI was also seen investigating, walking into the basement of the home, where officials say Rosenfeld was constructing a bomb.
