Democrats and the Justice Department are resisting President Donald Trump’s order to declassify certain Russia investigation documents because they want to “protect the guilty,” according to Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX).
“The reason for the delay has been to protect the guilty,” Gohmert told Fox Business Host Lou Dobbs Tuesday. “The names are being redacted, things are being redacted to protect the guilty. So, that’s the reason that they’re being redacted. That’s the reason they’re being slow to uncover these things.”
Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein also has a “strong motive” for delaying the declassification because they will likely implicate him in wrongdoing, Gohmert said.
“And, don’t forget ever for a moment, who’s in charge at Justice over all of this, it’s Rosenstein, the guy that was part of the original Russia investigation that helped Mueller and Weissmann keep it tamped down so that Clinton could approve the deal with CFIUS [Committee on Foreign Investment in the US] and they could get $145 million into the Clinton Foundation.”
“So, Rosenstein, that same guy, he has a strong motive for keeping this suppressed, at least past the election, as he hopes and prays Democrats get at least one of the majorities so they can protect him from prosecution,” he added.
Historically, he said, every time Democrats have tried to prevent government transparency by declassification, crimes usually end up getting exposed.
“Every time we have seen something be unredacted – it wasn’t about sources and methods, we want to protect those – but, every time, it has been self-serving to protect the people who have been violating federal regulations, violating protocol of the Justice Department or violating the law,” Gohmert said.
“And, so, it’s kind of calling wolf one too many times to be saying, ‘Gee, this is terrible.’ No, it’s transparency, and the American people need to see just how bad the DOJ was weaponized and was utilized.”
Following Trump’s declassification announcement Tuesday, Democrat leadership, including Nancy Pelosi (Calif.) and Chuck Schumer (NY), sent a panicked letter to Rosenstein, FBI Director Christopher Wray, and National Intelligence Director Dan Coats, pleading with them to disobey Trump’s order.

Trump said Tuesday he hopes the declassification will amount to one of his “crowning achievements” to expose the Deep State corruption against the American people.
“I hope to be able to call this, along with tax cuts and regulation and all the things I’ve done … in its own way this might be the most important thing because this was corrupt,” Trump told The Hill.
“I hope to be able put this up as one of my crowning achievements that I was able to…expose something that is truly a cancer in our country.”
