The new album Maya by controversial recording artist M.I.A. highlights connections between Google and government run organizations like Keyhole Corporation.
After reading an article outlining the Central Intelligence Agency’s acquisition of interactive 3D earth visualization software developed by Keyhole, M.I.A. included the following lyrics in her new album:
Lyrics from The Message
Headbone connects to the neckbone
Neckbone connects to the armbone
Armbone connects to the handbone
Handbone connects to the internet
Connected to the Google
Connected to the government
Simple lyrics but they point to a very real problem facing every man, woman and child alive today. Like anyone who follows current affairs, M.I.A. was alarmed by the synergistic effects of quasi-government agencies blending seamlessly with private corporations to better surveil its citizens.
Of course, these developments are all done under the guise of protection. The article leads off with the notion of using this tech exclusively in Iraq. However, all the tech developed for ‘terrorists’ in Iraq is finding its way back home to be used on ‘domestic terrorists’ aka anyone opposed to the burgeoning police state.
All around the country, citizens like you and I have been introduced to the wrong end of this experimental tech designed to spy, control crowds, and neutralize threats. Futuristic weapons like the Long Range Acoustical Device (LRAD) have been used to incapacitate peaceful protestors. Drone planes and gigantic armored vehicles have been purchased to patrol city limits. Companies like Google illegally data-mine, recording private information and storing it for future use. Thanks to the Patriot Act, fusion centers are springing up around the country collecting data without the bother of search warrants.
As we sink deeper into the police state, new technology innovations threaten to solidify the control grid. The full force of this tyranny can be felt far and wide. We are all plugged into the government via internet, phones and television; surveilled by unseen agencies that have no checks and balances. Public policy like the Missouri Information Analysis Center (MIAC) report have broadened the definition of terrorism and made it almost impossible for us commoners to stand up to the jack boot thug’s takeover.
