A GOP Rep called for Robert Mueller to be fired Wednesday night, quipping that if the investigation into Russian collusion and Donald Trump were any more biased, Mueller would have to be given press credentials.
Congressman Matt Gaetz (R-FL) made the striking comments during an appearance on Fox News:
Gaetz said that while a “great deal of folks” at the FBI and DOJ do a good job, they are still the “biggest alligators” in the “swamp of Washington D.C.”
Host Ed Henry asked Gaetz if he felt there should be a “purge” within the FBI, to which Gaetz urged that the purge is already “happening”.
“I mean, if Bob Mueller were any more biased, we’d have to give him press credentials for the mainstream media,” Gaetz said, noting that “real crimes” on behalf of the Obama administration and Hillary Clinton are going uninvestigated.
“I’ve been calling on Mueller to be fired for months now,” Gaetz declared.
Gaetz added that Attorney General Jeff Sessions should stop acting as a “spectator” and take action.
“He needs to step up, be the Attorney General, fire Mueller, and hire a second special counsel to evaluate the Clinton Foundation,” Gaetz stated.
The comments come in the wake of New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman, who is aiding special counsel Robert Mueller’s probe, boasting about waging “legal resistance,”against the Trump administration.
2017 was a year of legal resistance. With the tireless efforts of the talented attorneys on my staff, my office has now taken over 100 legal & administrative actions to protect the people of NY from attacks by the Trump administration. https://t.co/WM4K1nhbfG
