The Trump administration named Georgia Public Health Commissioner Brenda Fitzgerald the director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
Fitzgerald served as the state’s commissioner since 2011 and has practiced medicine for 30 years as an OB-GYN.
In her new role, Fitzgerald will oversee an agency charged with responding to emerging health threats in the U.S. and abroad.
