Conservative news aggregator Matt Drudge has hit out at the media, and specifically The Washington Post, after the newspaper announced that Newsroom staff “openly applauded” a traffic spike after publishing a story that attacked the president, accusing Trump of revealing sensitive information to Russian diplomats.
In a rare tweet, Drudge stated “WASHPOST Newsroom staff openly applauding at latest Trump hit finally clarifies how this has turned into nothing but a bloodsport!”

Drudge was responding to tweets by the Post’s Glenn Kessler who proudly bragged that applause had broken out in the newsroom when online viewing figures spiked above the record, previously set by a report in October when Trump’s infamous “locker room” audio was released.
“Applause in the newsroom as the Russia-leak scoop breaks the Hollywood Access record for most readers per minute,” Kessler wrote.

Kessler later clarified that he meant most readers “per second.”

Drudge followed up his initial tweet with another, reminding followers that a Politico report noted that President Obama was “openly applauded” when he visited the Post’s newsroom in 2009.

A third tweet from Drudge notes how the Post owner, Jeff Bezos has a personal beef with Trump because the now president threatened to go after Amazon’s monopoly on the online marketplace.

Trump himself responded to the report claiming that he gave Russian officials intelligence details, stating that it is within his rights to do so as President, and that he did so in response to a terror threat.
“As President I wanted to share with Russia (at an openly scheduled W.H. meeting) which I have the absolute right to do, facts pertaining to terrorism and airline flight safety,” Trump wrote on Twitter. “Humanitarian reasons, plus I want Russia to greatly step up their fight against ISIS & terrorism.”

Trump also tweeted that he had tasked FBI director James Comey to weed out leakers from within the White House, who have once again provided the press with details pertaining to national security matters.

Democrats, the left leaning media, and Trump detractors are now running with the story, suggesting that Trump is more of a threat to the US than North Korea or ISIS.
