Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced a new era of border security Tuesday, promising swift changes to the broken immigration system left over by the Obama administration.

In an interview with Fox News’ Sean Hannity, Sessions made clear border protection agencies would be enforcing immigration law like never before.

“The most important thing for us is to send a clear message to the world: ‘The border is not open. Please don’t come’” Sessions said.

“You will be apprehended if you do come and you will be deported promptly. And if you’re a criminal, you will be prosecuted, and if you assault our officers, we’re going to come at you with a ton of bricks.”

Sessions announced the renewed crackdown on criminal aliens during a tour of the border in Nogales, Arizona, where he directed prosecutors to be tougher on immigration related offenders, including human traffickers and repeat deportees.

“For those that continue to seek improper and illegal entry into this county, be forewarned. This is a new era. This is the Trump era. The lawlessness, the abdication of duty to enforce our laws and the catch and release policies of the past are over.”

The former Alabama senator also announced plans to add 125 immigration judges to reduce the massive backlog caseload, declaring 50 more judges would be added this year, and 75 in 2018 under a streamlined hiring plan which reduces hiring time.

Unlike before, the attorney general said adults caught illegally entering the US interior will now be detained and deported as soon as possible, an end to the so-called catch and release policy of the Obama era.

“Pursuant to the President’s executive order, we will now be detaining all adults who are apprehended at the border. They will not be released. To support this mission we have already surged 25 immigration judges to detention centers along the border.”
