Chuck Schumer is apparently on board with the slew of angry celebs who posted a video yesterday calling on Democrats in Congress to do everything possible to “obstruct” and “vigorously oppose” the “racist, sexist, xenophobic” Trump administration.
After months of whining about Republicans blocking Obama’s late term Supreme Court nominee, resulting in what Rachel Maddow dubbed a “stolen seat,” Schumer has vowed that Democrats will now attempt to do the exact same thing. And while a name has not even yet been proposed, the defiant Schumer told Rachel Maddow that he can’t “imagine a nominee that Donald Trump chooses that would get Republican support that [Democrats] could support.”
“We are not going to settle on a Supreme Court nominee.”
“If they don’t appoint someone who’s really good, we’re gonna oppose him tooth and nail.”
“It’s hard for me to imagine a nominee that Donald Trump chooses that would get Republican support that we could support.”
Of course, under current rules, a simple majority vote of the Senate is sufficient to approve a Supreme Court nominee though, while it would be somewhat unprecedented, Democrats could filibuster to block an appointment.
So are we looking at an 8-person Supreme Court until one party of the other gains a filibuster-proof majority in the Senate?
