A petition to reverse the result of the US general election and install Hillary Clinton as president has become the most popular petition ever.

The petition, titled “Make Hillary Clinton President”, was posted to Change.org and now has a total of over 4.6 million signatories at time of writing, making it the most popular petition in the website’s history.

It argues that argues that Clinton won the popular vote and therefore should be made President. It also argues, without presenting any real evidence, that President-elect Donald Trump is “unfit to serve”.

Trump won the presidency after securing enough votes in the electoral college, the established political system within the United States.

The system requires that representatives from every state cast ballots to determine who becomes the President. That way, each state is equally represented, no matter how big or small its population is.

The electoral representatives are supposed to vote for whoever won their state, but they are not mandated to do so, which is the angle the Democracy overturning petition is pursuing.

“On December 19, the Electors of the Electoral College will cast their ballots,” the petition reads.

“If they all vote the way their states voted, Donald Trump will win. However, in 14 of the states in Trump’s column, they can vote for Hillary Clinton without any legal penalty if they choose.” it continues.

“The Electoral College can actually give the White House to either candidate. So why not use this most undemocratic of our institutions to ensure a democratic result?” the petition also rather nonsensically states.

While this may be dismissed as a bunch of butt hurt Hillary supporters acting like sore losers, it has come to light that electors in several states that he won actually DO plan to vote against Trump.

A top Democratic operative also confirmed that there is a plan amongst some members of the electoral college to defy the people in their states and not vote for Trump on December 19th.

In addition, Congressman Sean Duffy (R-WI) told Fox News’ Tucker Carlson that Democrats are trying to stall the vote recount in Wisconsin so that it is not completed before the December 13 deadline, robbing Donald Trump of the electoral votes from that state.

37 electors would need to not cast their vote for Trump in order to strip the president elect of his electoral vote requirement to take the presidency. The fallout from such a move would be unprecedented and would likely spark a constitutional crisis, not to mention mass protests or even civil unrest.

If no candidate reaches 270 electoral votes, the decision goes to the Republican-controlled House of Representatives.
