American pop singer and Clinton supporter Katy Perry has tweeted out “Pepe the Frog” memes in the past despite claims by the Democratic nominee that the image is a “sinister” symbol of white supremacy.
In a recent blog post on Clinton’s website, the green amphibian is decried as the definitive racist and anti-semitic icon of the Trump campaign and the “alt-right” – a political movement that celebrates gay Jewish journalist Milo Yiannopoulos as its most prominent spokesman.
“The press seems determined to label the alt-right this misogynist, hateful, racist, homophobic, anti-semitic movement, and yet at the same time tries to crown a gay jew who never shuts up about his black boyfriend as the leader of it – something isn’t quite right here,” Yiannopoulos has said.

“Pepe’s been almost entirely co-opted by the white supremacists who call themselves the ‘alt-right,’” Clinton’s blog states. “They’ve decided to take back Pepe by adding swastikas and other symbols of anti-semitism and white supremacy.”
Perry’s last usage of the Pepe meme was made only two months ago – long after Trump’s initial 2015 tweet that brought the frog into the political race.

The issue was brought to the forefront after Donald Trump Jr. sent out a photo on Instagram labeled “The Deplorables” – a play on Clinton’s recent comment toward Trump supporters – showing everyone from Trump and Pepe to Alex Jones superimposed over “The Expendables” movie poster.
Clinton’s assertion that the meme is now “almost entirely” used by white supremacists and not average Internet users will likely clash with many online.
