At least one promise Hillary Clinton made during her presidential nomination acceptance speech Thursday night at the Democratic National Convention should be taken with a very large grain of salt, because Barack Obama made the exact pledge to the American people in 2008 upon becoming his party’s nominee.
In 2008 at Denver’s Investco Field, Obama laid out several liberal agenda items including, first and foremost, guaranteeing health care coverage for all, expanded federal government college education assistance, green energy jobs and “investments” in the nation’s infrastructure.
“Now, many of these plans will cost money, which is why I’ve laid out how I’ll pay for every dime [emphasis added]: by closing corporate loopholes and tax havens that don’t help America grow,” Obama said.
“But I will also go through the federal budget line by line, eliminating programs that no longer work and making the ones we do need work better and cost less, because we cannot meet 21st century challenges with a 20th century bureaucracy,” he added.
Earlier in the address, Obama promised only the wealthiest Americans would pay for his programs.
