Police are investigating an attempted carjacking that happened on the Far West Side early Saturday.

Officers say a man and his 15-year-old son were traveling east on Culebra Road around 12 a.m. Saturday, when they stopped at a red light at the intersection of Ingram Road.

The man told police a small silver or white compact car stopped beside them on right side of their SUV. Someone inside the car got out, walked over and tried to pull the man out of his SUV. When the man resisted, the suspect pulled a gun and fired two shots in an apparent attempt to scare the man. The man, who was carrying a concealed handgun, pulled his gun and returned fire.
