A so called Ferguson ‘protest leader’ who was invited to the White House by President Obama is now facing charges of 3rd degree assault after he was filmed on video trying to force his way into St. Louis City Hall.
Rasheen Aldridge, 22, met with the President Monday as part of the ‘Ferguson Commission’, to give insight into the events that have unfolded and are still ongoing in the troubled town.
Obama even name checked Aldridge, described as director of Young Activists United co-chair of Missouri Jobs with Justice. Obama said “One of the most powerful things that happened today was I had the opportunity to meet with some young people, including a couple of young outstanding leaders from the Ferguson community, Brittany Packnett and Rasheen Aldridge.”
However, it seems that Aldridge, who was recommended to visit the White House by Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon, isn’t so outstanding.
In the video below, Aldridge is seen leading a mob trying to force their way into St. Louis City Hall while chanting “We shut shit down!” and “this is what democracy looks like!”
Aldridge, in the gray hat can be clearly seen shoving a security official who was blocking the entrance to the building during the incident which occurred two days after the Ferguson grand jury verdict.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that Aldridge and two others have been charged with misdemeanor assault following their arrest on November 26, days before the White House meeting. The article notes that Aldridge initially claimed that neither he nor anyone else had touched city workers during the attempt to gatecrash the building.
A statement by police also noted that the group broke the doors to the building.
What’s more, Aldridge clearly has an axe to grind with police. Back in September he even made public the social security number of Ferguson police chief Tom Jackson by tweeting it and putting it on Instagram, an act clearly designed to expose Jackson’s personal details to anyone seeking to take matters into their own hands.
While Aldridge and other ‘protesters’ like him visited with Obama, no Ferguson police officers or local business owners were invited to attend. It is concerning to note that Obama also said the following about Aldridge and his ilk:
“What made me concerned was the degree to which they feel as if they are not heard or that the reality of what they experienced has been denied. What made me greatly encouraged was how clear their voices were when they were heard, and how constructive they are in wanting to solve these problems. And I think anybody who had the chance to listen to them here today felt the same way.”
After the meeting with Obama, Aldridge told the media that he was disappointed, noting “We want [the president] to come out and have accountability for police, we want him to acknowledge our pain, and that we have been peaceful.”
Aldridge has clearly been exposed as both a liar and someone who, by posting the police chief’s social security number, wishes to facilitate nefarious action against the police in Ferguson. His actions are far from “constructive,” and the fact that he has been chosen to represent the community in a meeting with the President of the United States over local police and business owners is disturbing to say the least.
