Austin Police Chief Art Acevedo has reinstated or reduced the suspensions of several police officers in high-profile disciplinary cases — reversals that sometimes were the result of private negotiations between the officers and Acevedo.
In other cases, police union officials said Acevedo unilaterally reduced officers’ suspension as officers were fighting their discipline.
In the past two years, Acevedo has reduced the discipline for at least seven officers, which represents about 7 percent of all suspensions he has imposed during that time, a KVUE Defenders/Austin American-Statesman investigation found.
