Eight of the nine fires that San Diego firefighters are battling have a suspicious ignition point, meaning they didn’t start normally, a local ABC affiliate reported.
Sources told the station that the fires didn’t start from a lawnmower or car engine starting, or from a discarded cigarette butt.
One source, a long-time arson investigator who is now retired, told the station that the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, or CAL FIRE, has a crack investigative team to determine exactly how the fires started.
The San Diego Fire Department will be investigating as well.
