Britain is reinforcing its position as a “tier one” military power at the vanguard of defense aerospace with the release of its world-beating Tempest fighter jet – more than a match for the Tupolev Tu-22M3M long-range strike bomber being paraded by Russia’s Vladimir Putin today.

The so-called sixth-generation warplane will replace the RAF’s American F-35 and the Eurofighter Typhoon and is already being the “Brexit Bomber” as Britain snatches a lead over France and Germany in developing the West’s next fighter.

The costs and complexities of hybrid drone-planes mean only two or three sixth-generation models will ever leave the drawing board and with the Tempest, Britain is making a bold bid to claim a big share of one of them.
