The Obama administration is preparing to announce curbs on a significant part of nonessential military aid to Egypt, a shift in relations with a key Arab ally that comes three months after a military coup removed Egypt’s first democratically elected leader.
That leader, former president Mohamed Morsi, will appear in court Nov. 4 on charges of inciting violence against protesters during his time in office, Egypt’s court of appeals said Wednesday.
Also Wednesday, the Ministry of Social Solidarity announced the official dissolution of the Muslim Brotherhood, the Islamist group that backed Morsi, making membership in the Brotherhood effectively illegal here.
