Far-left organizers are planning a mass protest in Boston against President-elect Donald Trump, citing the need to “immediately start fighting against him.”
Approximately 2,300 people have indicated they will gather outside the Massachusetts State House in Boston tonight for a “Boston Against Trump Rally.” According to the Facebook event page, another 5,000 people say they may be interested in attending.
“Donald Trump is the next President of the United States. We need to immediately start fighting against him. We need to build a movement to fight racism, sexism, and Islamophobia,” the event description says.
The event organizers, in addition to their dislike of Trump, express support for typical far-left causes as well:
“- No Border Wall! Stop the deportations of undocumented immigrants!
– Black Lives Matter!
– Stop the Dakota Access Pipeline — Green Jobs now! — #NoDAPL
– Fight sexism, rape culture, and all attacks on women!
– Tax the super rich like Trump! Fund healthcare for all! Make college free!”
The protest is being lead by the Boston Socialist Students, an organization that claims the economic problems affecting the United States are due to capitalism.
“Socialist Students is a youth organization that sees the crises of student debt and low wage jobs as being a crisis of capitalism. We see the need for a new society, a socialist society, that can meet the needs of us all, not just a handful of billionaires,” the group’s description says.
Far-left protestors in Oakland, California and Portland, Oregon broke windows, set cars on fire and disrupted traffic in the hours following Donald Trump’s victory over Hillary Clinton. Others took to Twitter to call for Trump’s assassination prior to assuming the presidency.
Hundreds of students from the University of California at Santa Barbara, including one holding a Mexican flag, marched near the campus and shouted “Not my president,” and “F**k Donald Trump.”
