The arrogance is unparalleled. A top Obama apparatchik tells Americans they should think about destroying the Second Amendment over Thanksgiving.
During a press conference Obama’s Press Secretary Josh Earnest continued to press a narrative set up by gun control activists in response to the terrorist attacks in Paris, according to Charles Spiering.
“As people sitting around the Thanksgiving table talking about these issues as they should and I’m sure they will all across the country, I hope that’s a question that will be raised and asked by members around the table,” Earnest said.
Earnest’s remark coincides with a bill introduced by New York Sen. Charles Schumer. The Democrat wants to make certain people on the government’s no-fly list are denied the right to protect themselves.
The list—which prevents people from boarding an airplane and flying in and out of the United States—is not based on criminal conviction. It is based on “predictive assessments” of people the government has determined are terrorists. It is pre-crime in action. It is violation of the Fourth Amendment.
Peace activists have ended up on the no-fly list. So have people who refused to become informers for the FBI.
In 2002 it was reported the no-fly program was “netting mostly priests, elderly nuns, Green Party campaign operatives, left-wing journalists, right-wing activists and people affiliated with Arab or Arab-American groups,” in other words people the government considers terrorist for non-violent political activity.
“This all raises serious concerns about whether the government has made a decision to target Americans based on their political beliefs,” Katie Corrigan, an ACLU official, told Dave Lindorff in 2002.
At that time, the list consisted of 1,000 people. It went up exponentially. In 2011 there were 10,000 names on the list and the following year it more than doubled to 21,000. In August 2013 a leak revealed that more than 47,000 people were on the list.
If Schumer and the Democrats have their way, mission creep will be inevitable. The so-called Terrorist Screening Database kept by the FBI’s Terrorist Screening Center has 400,000 names. An audit by the Justice Department’s Office of Inspector General found that 38% of a 105 record sample contained inaccuracies.
The overriding agenda is not keeping guns out of the hands of terrorists—including elderly nuns and political activists—but slowly chipping away at the constitutional right to possess firearms. Democrats will do whatever they have decided is necessary to disarm the public and destroy the Second Amendment.
This Thanksgiving Americans should think about what can be done to prevent Obama and the Democrats—and no shortage of Republicans—from engaging in a conspiracy to destroy not only the Second Amendment, but the Fourth and First as well.
