[efoods]The New York Times unearthed a memo written by Col. Timothy R. Reese, an adviser to the Iraqi military’s Baghdad command, advising the U.S. military to “declare victory and go home.”

Iraqi forces, he argued, are flawed yet still capable of defending the country’s government.

“As the old saying goes, ‘guests, like fish, begin to smell after three days.’ Since the signing of the 2009 Security Agreement, we are guests in Iraq, and after six years in Iraq, we now smell bad to the Iraqi nose.”

Is it time, finally, to get out of Iraq for good?

The paper then asked a handful of experts to weigh in on the memo and to assess whether withdrawing U.S. forces by next year is a realistic goal.
