President-elect Donald Trump deserves a chance from African-Americans, says Black Entertainment Television founder Bob Johnson.
The BET founder had met face-to-face with the president-elect in Bedminster, New Jersey, at Trump National Golf Club during the weekend.
“Trump is a business guy, and I think he’s going to tilt towards finding [a] way to use fiscal policy … to move the economy forward,” Johnson told CNBC on Monday. “Let’s give him a shot. Let’s give him the benefit of the doubt; see if we can find common ground.”
“That’s what’s best for African-Americans.”
Johnson, a Democrat, was a staunch supporter of Hillary Clinton, and told Trump, “The real question you should be asking is what do African-Americans have to gain from your presidency.”
He also added the country doesn’t need “somebody who’s going to sort of choose sides” but rather a strong leader, and Johnson hopes Trump is that leader.
Johnson joins a growing list of famous African-Americans who are giving Trump a shot instead of resisting him publicly.
Entertainer Kayne West stirred controversy after he said he would’ve voted for Trump.
“I told y’all I didn’t vote, right?” Kanye said at a Nov. 17 concert in San Jose, Calif. “But if I would’ve voted, I would’ve voted on Trump.”
West said he was enamored with Trump’s off-the-cuff style of giving speeches.
“There’s nonpolitical methods to speaking that I like, that I feel were very futuristic. And that style, and that method of communication, has proven that it can beat a politically correct way of communication,” he continued.
“And I f*ck with that.”
“…I actually think that his approach was absolutely genius. Because it f*cking worked!”
It isn’t that surprising that West found solace in Trump’s rejection of political correctness; as Infowars previously reported, numerous left-leaning comedians warned that political correctness was killing the entertainment industry.
“I don’t play colleges but I hear a lot of people tell me, ‘Don’t go near colleges, they’re so pc,’” Jerry Seinfeld said in a 2015 interview.
