Lebanese security sources stated Tuesday that the two smugglers were members of a ring that receives money from Syrian opposition groups based in an Arab country of the Persian Gulf to buy weapons on black market, a Press TV correspondent in Beirut reported.

One smuggler was apprehended on Sunday and the second on Tuesday.

The security sources added that the smugglers transported the weapons close to the Syrian border in eastern Lebanon and then handed them over to other groups of smugglers that transferred the arms to troubled spots in Syria.

On October 16, Syrian ambassador told an Arab League meeting in the Egyptian capital Cairo that his country’s security forces have seized Israeli weapons trafficked through Lebanon.
