Lonely women who have survived breast cancer are 60 per cent more likely to die from a recurrence of the disease than those more socially active, new research reveals.
A study of nearly 10,000 patients also found that socially isolated women had a 40 per cent greater chance of the condition returning.
Factors such as having a spouse and engagement with relatives play a role in predicting a person’s long-term survival from the disease, said the authors behind the study, as well as number of friends and participation in community or religious activity.
