Born October 20, 2015, Frankie Morrison of Hull, U.K., was born with just two tablespoons of blood in her entire body.

That is seven times less than the average infant is born with.

The rest of her system was made of water, which meant that the child’s odds of survival were not in her favor.

However, the little girl is now not only alive and well one year later, but thriving in her East Yorkshire home.

Frankie’s mother, Maria, went to the emergency room after not feeling her baby move for a couple of days. She was told to go home and come back if she noticed any changes. Fearing the worst, she returned when she still couldn’t feel her daughter moving a couple of days later.

Frankie was born in an emergency C-section after doctors found that she was no longer moving inside of her mother’s womb but still had a sustained heartbeat. This was due to the fact that she did not have enough blood in her body to keep her mobile.

From there, she was resuscitated immediately, as it was apparent that she was not breathing.

Maria says of the day her daughter was born:

“When I came around from the operation I could see people standing around me crying.

I thought I had lost her. They said she had been having breathing difficulties and told us in a roundabout way that I had to go to see her because it’s not looking good. They said they didn’t hold out much hope for her.

I went up to her and there was this chubby little eight pound baby who was so bloated because she had all this water instead of blood inside her.

Her body was soaking wet and they were carrying out chest drains on her because water had got into her lungs and chest.

But I just took one look at her and knew she was a fighter and would pull through.”

Frankie received two blood transfusions in the hospital and then was transferred by helicopter to a specialist unit in Leicester in the Midlands of the United Kingdom.

Her parents were told that she was likely starved of oxygen so long that she would be brain damaged if she pulled through.

Miraculously, however, the one-year-old is developing at a fully normal rate for a child her age and is showing no signs of delay.

Frankie’s parents said her pediatrician was in tears at her six month check up after seeing how well she was doing.

Maria added of the family’s ordeal:

“It’s brilliant. We are just the luckiest people in the world. I would never class myself as unlucky again after seeing what Frankie went through.
I still cannot believe the baby sat in front of me after everything she has been through.”
