For the first time in the history of space flight, a spacecraft will attempt a soft landing on a comet hurtling through the solar system and send images back to Earth.
The fridge-sized Philae probe will be dispatched from the Rosetta mission, which has been tracking 67/P Churyumov-Gerasimenko for a cumulative distance of 6.4 billion km (3.9bn miles).
With the comet travelling at 34,000mph, the feat has been likened to throwing a hammer from London and hitting a nail with it in Delhi.
