Freedom House, located in Washington D.C., is funded by the U.S. government. Its president is David J. Kramer. He was a senior fellow at the neoconservative Project for a New American Century. He was with the U.S. Department of State for a good many years.

Freedom House has been criticized by Ron Paul for its meddling:

“On December 7, 2004, U.S. House Representative Ron Paul criticized Freedom House for allegedly administering a U.S.-funded program in Ukraine where ‘much of that money was targeted to assist one particular candidate.’ Paul said that

“‘one part that we do know thus far is that the U.S. government, through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), granted millions of dollars to the Poland-America-Ukraine Cooperation Initiative (PAUCI), which is administered by the U.S.-based Freedom House. PAUCI then sent U.S. Government funds to numerous Ukrainian non-governmental organizations (NGOs). This would be bad enough and would in itself constitute meddling in the internal affairs of a sovereign nation. But, what is worse is that many of these grantee organizations in Ukraine are blatantly in favor of presidential candidate Viktor Yushchenko.’”

Because Kramer shifts his positions so as to be against Russia and for U.S. dominance in Ukraine, he displays incredible hypocrisy.

For example, he called for the resignation of Yanukovych, because of his loss of legitimacy, but he is not saying a word about the resignation of the current Kiev administration in the face of its lack of legitimacy in eastern Ukraine. Instead, he has called for immediate U.S. sanctions.

On Dec. 9, 2013, Kramer took the side of demonstrators in Kiev:

“Freedom House also calls on President Viktor Yanukovych to offer his resignation as a way to trigger early presidential elections, the only non-violent way to end the standoff with demonstrators.”

He had no qualms or reservations about who composed the mobs or who organized them.

Four months later on April 9, 2014, Kramer took precisely the opposite stance by condemning demonstrators in eastern Ukraine and blaming Putin for coordinating them.

“In the past 24 hours, we witnessed demonstrators in a number of cities in eastern parts of Ukraine seize government buildings. The coordination involved in yesterday’s actions leads me to conclude that Russia had some role to play.”

Freedom House is supposedly an NGO (non-governmental organization). Actually, it is NOT AN NGO, because its funding comes from the U.S. government and it acts as an adviser and stooge for the U.S. government and empire. It’s very easy for Freedom House to condemn this or that dictator or to sound alarms against genocides or to promote itself with objectives such as “bolstering civil society; worked to support women’s rights; sought justice for victims of torture; defended journalists and free expression advocates; and assisted those struggling to promote human rights in challenging political environments.”

Anyone can set themselves up as morally righteous on any number of causes, but where did Freedom House stand on the U.S. attack on Iraq? How can Freedom House defend itself against the charge that it is a cover organization for promoting revolutions in countries where the U.S. government decides it wants to see revolutions?

Washington is filled with neoconservative appendages to the U.S. government and with wolves in sheep’s clothing like David J. Kramer. To be in the grip of a sweet-talking, intelligent, determined, self-assured, power-hungry, self-righteous and yet naive and ignorant set of warmongers who are intent on remaking and dominating the entire world (while staying in their cushy jobs) is an exceedingly dangerous state of affairs for Americans and the rest of the world. Unchecked, they will definitely bring this country to a ruination that is becoming palpably nearer by the day. A very large new broom is needed to sweep Washington clean.

The U.S. meddled in Ukraine for years in the past. It is still meddling. Now it is taking follow-on military and economic steps that include sanctions on Russia. Given the existence of the U.S. government, I take the proper libertarian position always to have been one of U.S. neutrality, strictly defense and non-intervention. That is, the smaller and less pro-active the government in domestic and foreign matters, the better. That policy would have cost Americans an incredible amount less of its hard-earned wealth over the years. For the U.S. government to attempt to re-make the world is an absurd and losing proposition, in my opinion. It can’t be done by any state and it can’t be done by the use of the powers of a state.
