London police say closed-circuit TV footage may help track down bombers

British authorities will rely on a vital tool as they try to track down those responsible for today's deadly explosions. Some eight-thousand closed-circuit T-V cameras help officials track people throughout London, including more than six-thousand cameras monitoring the Underground subway system.

Britain began using closed-circuit monitoring to deter and help solve terror attacks by the Irish Republican Army after the I-R-A staged deadly bombings in London in 1992 and 1993.

The system has its critics. They maintain the closed-circuit T-Vs aren't monitored frequently enough to deter a crime as it's happening.
